Welcome to HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS MALAWI (HISP MALAWI)
This website is intended to provide you with the most up-to-date information regarding HMIS in Malawi particulary the DHIS2 Implementation. You can also access to the online DHIS2 database itself from the link on top right.
The aims of the site are to:
1. Provide information about health information systems issues and activities affecting DHIS2 implementation in Malawi
2. Serve as a home page for the DHIS2 repository for routing health aggregate reports in Malawi.
3. To provide a forum for discussion about health information systems issues affecting DHIS2 in Malawi
The purpose of the Health Information Systems Program (HISP) is to support and improve the implementation of an integrated
Health Information System (HIS) in Malawi. The Health Information Systems project is expected to facilitate increased integration and more rational data and information flows in Malawi.
The need for information support in planning, monitoring and evaluation of health care interventions is an expressed need by health workers and international agencies as one of the factors which can lead to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Ministry of Health through the Central Monitoring and Evaluation Division (CMED) in the Department of Planning and Policy Development has embarked on a number of interventions with a view to revamp the health information system in Malawi. Though the invested efforts led to some optimal achievements in terms of structure and availability of information for decision making, the health information system is still characterized as centralized, fragmented and inflexible due to its inability to respond to the ever changing needs of the health system.
We thank the following organisations and institutions for supporting implementation of DHIS2 in Malawi in one way or another: Norad through University of Oslo; UNICEF; SSDI ; CDC and MSF.
We hope that you find this website useful.
