HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROGRAMME -HISP MALAWI

Introduction

The purpose of the Health Information Systems Program (HISP) is to support and improve the implementation of an integrated Health Information System (HIS) in Malawi. HISP is expected to facilitate increased integration and more rational data and information flows in Malawi.

The need for information support in planning, monitoring and evaluation of health care interventions is an expressed need by health workers and international agencies as one of the factors which can lead to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Some optimal achievements in terms of structure and availability of information for decision making has been achieved so far, however the health information system is still characterized as inflexible due to its inability to respond to the ever changing needs of the health system.

We thank the following organisations and institutions for supporting implementation of DHIS2 in Malawi: Norad through University of Oslo; UNICEF; SSDI ; CDC and MSF.
